applying for WIC I am currently 24 weeks pregnant
It is so hard to get service at this place. At first I would call and no one would ever answer. We went in person and apparently we were missing a document but said as soon as we get it call them and they’ll make us an appointment. We got the document and called. But guess who wouldn’t answer the phone?? Finally after I just let the phone ring for a very long time someone answered and said the front desk was busy and she’ll call us back. NEVER GOT THE PHONE CALL. We went in person on a different day, and the office was closed. Today it’s snowing a lot but I need to go to WIC. I called to check their hours. They actually answered. The lady told me they’ll close at 1. So I loaded all four kids (to include the infant) in the car. Drive through the snow, and get there at 12:04 just to find the office closed. I called them and they said, we are closed from 12-1 for lunch. Why wouldn’t they say that on the phone??! But the lady was sooooo unapologetic. She gave no at all that they’re giving the wrong information and people are driving through dangerous weather because they need assistance. And for them to get there and find the office closed. I’m beyond annoyed and frustrated with this office.
I would like to address a woman named H... that works for your clinic who told my client that she needed to stop breastfeeding her 7 month old infant because "there is no nutritional value" and that he should be fed strictly table foods and cows milk at this age. This is terrible misinformation and this employee should be retrained on lactation and breastfeeding guidelines and practices put into place by the AAP and WHO. You are ruining perfectly successful breastfeeding relationships by giving misinformation about lactation and the continued benefits of breastfeeding to 2 years and beyond. I hope that your clinic strives to give up to date, evidence-based recommendations on infant feeding practices since that is what your program is supposed to be about. Thank you for your consideration in retraining this individual to follow the guidelines that promote and protect breastfeeding as we all know that it is important to the health of the infant to be exclusively breastfed for at least 6 months with continued breastfeeding for 2 years and beyond.
